A writer of the night and a producer as the sun arises; J Chase lives by the lifestyle of working late nights and into the early mornings. A passionate artist, whose ambition has taken him to great heights, which has caused him to land in the presence of many great people who have helped him along the way. Catching, the ears of his fans with his genuine discussion of life issues and using his music as a way to vent, J Chase believes “every struggle is a testimony, inspiring somebody.” Through every obstacle and triumph he has used every situation to mold him into the artist he is today. Lansing, Michigan native Joseph Washington was born to a mother and father who were both entrepreneurs. His father was heavily involved in music while his mother; a native of the West Indies built a business from the ground up. This instilled in him a love for music, a need to help others, and a strong sense of ambition. At a young age he ran lemonade stands and sold candy bars making a name for himself as “Money.” This name came from his crafty ability to make any situation an opportunity to generate income. He started to gain local attention as a talented young man with a vision. At the age of thirteen, Joseph began rapping and writing in a group known as Black Diamond. Shortly, after joining the group and affirming his passion for music the artist J Chase was born. Putting pen to paper J Chase came alive creating beats and rhymes on his parents back porch. A small beginning that grew into establishing his own studio. Aspiring artist, from all over the Lansing area came to fulfill their dreams of one day making it in the music industry. The people he worked with respected his thoughtful demeanor, attention to detail, and overall compassion towards their work. He built rapport amongst his fellow local artists and was taken under the wing of the late Big Perm, a Michigan rap artist who introduced J Chase to many up and coming artists who have now made names for themselves. Perm helped him build relationships, inspired him, and stressed the importance of innovation. The love J Chase has shown towards the artists he has worked with is a reciprocated love for his music. Through his struggles and victories he has poured out his genuine love for his day ones, life issues, and how he has made it no matter the obstacle. This is heard in his first mixtapes “Gumbo” and “Welcome to my Reality.” Since then he has created more music and opened for well-known artists such as Big Sean, Bun B, Kid Ink, Kirko Bangz, Rich Homie Quan and YG. As he continues to make his mark on the music industry, he can never let go of what was instilled in him at a young age, which was to help others. It is not music alone that makes him happy which is why he gives back to his community to show his love and support that they continue to show him everyday. The TakeOva continuously volunteers locally throughout the Lansing area. Currently J Chase has blown away his fans with his latest project “Late Nights Early Mornings.” This mixtape has evolved into branding The TakeOva as a money hungry insomniac using the slogan “Money Never Sleeps.” J Chase has created a movement with a fan base that is motivated to hustle no matter the hour. J Chase plans to release a mixtape called “Another Late Night” later this year, and also an album titled “Transitions” 2016.
