Festival-goers could pump $3.5M into local economy

The Common Ground festival rolls into Lansing's Riverfront Park on Tuesday, and it's expected to boost the local economy by an estimated $3.5 million.

The city and private managing partnership hopes the third annual extravaganza, which begins Tuesday, will draw more than 63,000 people downtown for six days of music, food and family entertainment.

There was nothing common about this year's Common Ground festival, held July 9 to 14 on the banks of the Grand River in downtown Lansing.

Concerts by well-known groups and solo artists - including Foreigner, Smokey Robinson, Earth, Wind & Fire, Journey, and Kool and the Gang - highlighted the week's events.
